Matilda grew up with Irwin, Escad and Daena. Matilda was confined to Gato Temple in order to stay on her path as the High Priestess. Irwin was the only one who had shown Matilda freedom, by taking her to the Ulkan Mines. However her first taste of freedom was shortlived. There was poisonous gas inside the Ulkan mines and Matilda starts to become afraid. Irwin urges her to go back but she refuses, as she deeply wants to stay near Irwin and curses her priestess obligation. She knows that no matter what, because of her power she will be forced to become a priestess no matter what. Irwin tells her to summon her guardian spirit and then, believing it will give her true freedom, cuts it down. This is when Escad finds the two of them. Instead of freeing Matilda however, the death of her guardian spirit caused her to age considerably and become bed ridden. She does not curse or blame Irwin for this though. After some time Daena takes her to the demon world to be with Irwin, so that she does not die, because in the demon world, the flesh is not bound by time. She changes back to her normal self here, but Irwin still despises mortals and the normal world because it still refuses to accept Matilda, as he does. Matilda wished to go back to the human world though, as she did not feel she belonged there in the Demon World with Irwin.
