Salt and his younger brother Charles lost their parents five years before the beginning of the series in an accident on Christmas Day, which was when Salt promised Charles that he'd protect him no matter what. Charles lost the movement of one of his arms in the accident, which lead Salt to the decision of stealing so he could keep themselves alive. He hid this fact of his brother, knowing that he'd be upset about it, and kept on stealing with his friend and partner-in-crime Pierre. His thefts then led him to meet Rudolph and discover that he holds the power of Santa Claus, being that the reason why his eyes are silver.
