7. Walkthrough
=========
7.1 Prelude
=========
Welcome to the start of an awesome game. After watching the cinematic you'll
know your mission is to hunt down Roland Kane and bring him back to Earth.
However, your ship gets shot down and you're left to fend for yourself on an
alien planet with squad mates that don't even respect you.
Once the cinematic finishes, Jericho will tell you to follow him. Press circle
(self-explanatory) to climb the ladder and enjoy the space views as you make
your way to the armory. Logan will introduce you to the weapons, but then
your ship gets hit. (Cinematic)
==============
7.2 The Lost Land
==============
You'll be thrown straight into the action. Follow the objective arrow through
the ship, catching up to your buddy. The ship will be shaking like crazy, but
you won't be killed, so don't stress. Once your buddy dies, head in the
opposite direction and turn right, crouching beneath the fallen beam. You'll
meet another squad mate who needs help opening the door. Mash the circle
button to open it and then climb the ladder. You'll be thrown from the ship by
an explosion, landing in the jungle.
Follow or overtake your buddy as you walk through the grass. You'll see your
first dinosaur, a compsognathus, or compy. As you walk out into the open
you'll find yourself on a cliff. Shortly after, a pterodactyl will fly past
and the camera will pan to show you the landscape. Smoke is in the distance,
indicating where the rest of the ship landed. That's where you'll be headed.
Follow your buddy as he tries to get in contact with the rest of the squad.
However, just as he does, a raptor drags him away. Fear not, you are still
alive. Continue down the path to the checkpoint and the camera will zoom in on
the SMG. Run over and grab it. There's a strong chance the mini-raptors will
try to eat you, so blast them (it takes one shot) or wait till they jump on
you. Once they have jumped on you, make sure you button mash to get the
annoying creatures off. Head through the log to find your trusty knife. Now
the fun begins!
Just around the corner one of your buddies will get shot by a Mendel-Gruman (M-
G) soldier. Either dispose of him by sneaking up with the knife (press R2 when
prompted) or shoot him. Keep in mind you can equip the silencer onto the SMG
by pressing R1. There'll be another soldier further ahead. Sneak up and knife
him, then climb the rocks, passing another fallen team mate, and jump down
into a creepy log. (Checkpoint and cinematic)
-----------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Search the area for survivors.
-----------------------------------------------------
Now you're with Slade, a badass voiced by Ron Perlman. Drop down the ledges
with beefcake ahead of you. (Checkpoint)
This is the first firefight of the game, and it's easy. Four soldiers will
shoot your way; make sure to return the favour. Use the cover because straying
into the open is a bad habit the further you progress in the game. If you get
hit badly, hide for awhile while Turok recovers before killing the remainders.
After they're all down grab the ammo and move on. You should now be able to
dual wield your SMGs, but this takes away the ability to aim with the L2
button.
You can hear a helicopter close by, and as you turn the corner into a clearing
a group of soldiers drop from it. Use cover religiously here to stay alive.
After a brief period of time a T-Rex will burst out of the trees, eating your
enemies, before walking off. Marvel, but don't get too close. (Cinematic and
checkpoint)
===========
7.3 Bad Blood
===========
------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find the main crash site.
------------------------------------------------
Head through the rocky alley and then down the ledges. You have the option of
going left or right. To the left there is a grenade, but the right is a more
direct route. It's up to you. The mini-raptors in this large clearing are a
nuisance. Dispose of them with the knife or SMG. Once they're all dead:
checkpoint.
After you have wandered around aimlessly, follow Slade to the giant skull.
(Cinematic)
A nice touch of characterization and then the raptor comes and ruins it all.
Just joking ... let's shed some blood. Button mash to get the first one off of
you, and then go for the knife kill. My personal favourite is the blade
through the skull. There are only three raptors here.
-----------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Follow Slade up to the skull.
-----------------------------------------------------
It could just be me, but on Inhuman difficulty, it's extremely hard to get a
knife kill on a raptor. If anyone else is having this problem, feel free to
back me up! Anyway, dispose of the big raptor and two minis in the next
section and head through the skull. Another blue one should leap on you. Break
its back. Now follow Slade's lead as he ascends the vines.
------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find the main crash site.
------------------------------------------------
Two mini-raptors will be chasing a poor compy. You can simply run past them,
or kill them if it's in your nature. (Checkpoint)
There are compies feeding in the short cavern ahead, and I found a raptor on
Inhuman which I don't think was there before. After dropping down the ledge
you can crouch down to the right and head through a small nest which opens out
to give you a nice view of the landscape. There's also a grenade here.
However, if you don't take this path you have two other options: climbing the
steps or heading around the bend. Both open onto a clearing. There's a strong
chance you'll see the only killable herbivore in the game: Parasaurolophus.
However, the dinosaurs that appear in this section are entirely random, as
I've encountered two raptors, two paras, and a single para with a compy. Climb
the vines on the cliff-face. (Checkpoint)
Once again there are two different paths for some minor variety. I tend to
take the trunk over the canyon because it seems easier. You won't find any
goodies on either path you take.
As you head through the base of a large tree you'll find a raptor nest. The
dinos are fighting with each other and I guess it's fun to watch for a bit.
The raptor nests and eggs are an important strategic option throughout the
game. Dispose of what is left. If you head up the hill to the right you'll
find some SMG ammo, but there's also some at the base of the vines. Climb up.
(Checkpoint)
A helicopter will fly past, and you'll see a MG facility in the distance.
Crossing the facility's bridge is the only way to get across to the other side
of the valley, which means you'll have to go through their base.
-----------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find your way to the facility.
-----------------------------------------------------
Continue down the path. (Checkpoint)
As you descend the ledges, you'll come across another clearing. A MG soldier
will cry 'Help me!' before being pounced on by a raptor. Kill them both if you
can. There'll be a couple of other raptors at this small crash site, and
they'll do most of the hard work for you. However, you're more than welcome to
pick off the distracted soldiers. Drop down and head to the right under the
big tree trunk. This is the best place to hit enemies coming out of the ship
ahead. Use your silencer and don't dual wield for better accuracy. Once
everything seems clear proceed ahead, making sure you're always close to
cover. Be careful if you make too much commotion, because if you get
distracted shooting in the same position, the soldiers will flank you -
particularly on Inhuman. Also, these guys can take a bucket load of bullets.
Many people complain about this, but I love it. So the longer you blast away
on one guy, the more chance you'll get hit by his buddies. It makes for great
gameplay.
After you defeat the swarm proceed into the wreckage. A raptor will come out
and attack you. If you're lucky it'll be dead before it can pounce.
(Checkpoint)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Search the cryo section of the wreckage.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Walk forwards and pick up the bow. (Cinematic)
I love this weapon. The bow fires the arrow harder the longer you hold R2
down. You can also steadily release your hold on R2 to avoid firing the arrow.
Also, L2 allows you to get a good zoom on your enemies. Later on, you'll also
pick up its secondary function - Tek arrows (explosive arrows). Let's put it
to good use, shall we?
-------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find a way to the facility.
-------------------------------------------------
Immediately ahead there's one guy just waiting for an arrow. Reward him
through the head or wherever else takes your fancy. There should be a couple
of soldiers also standing ahead of the one you've just killed. They will run
once their buddy goes down. Try and hit one before you lose sight of them. If
you're playing Inhuman, beware of the guy who suddenly comes running from
cover, particularly if you're still holding the bow. I was lucky enough to get
him in the head before he gunned me down.
Depending on your difficulty, you should be able to walk through the cover of
the trees until you have a good view on the log overhanging the canyon. Make
sure you take out the guy all the way at the end of this walk as he will flank
you. With him down, watch the enemies head down the log and pick them off one
by one.
After you have killed them, climb the conveniently-shaped log and pick off the
guy concealed in the shadows at the top, by the rock face. Another guy will
appear from behind the wreckage. As you make your way across the next log
heading down, pick off the two guys ahead by aiming with L2. This will clear
the area and give you a good vantage point for the next wave.
Conceal yourself behind one of the larger rocks as the helicopter descends.
Then it's simply a matter of popping out from behind cover to pick off a
couple of guys before hiding again to recover. Once they're dead, head over to
where the helicopter descended.
Follow the path that slopes down to another convenient landform. Three
soldiers will rush at you, but they're easy to dispose of. Head along this
thin walkway back into the jungle. (Checkpoint)
A soldier is shooting at a compy over the next ledge, so give him a taste of
his own medicine. Once the tense music starts it means you've made it to a
small outpost near the facility. Slade will tell you to split up and flank the
soldiers. Take the left. Now there are numerous approaches to this situation.
I'll just list what I recommend, as I've attempted different options:
- wait for the soldiers to become reasonably dispersed. Once they are bow the
one which is furthest away from the others. This shouldn't cause any problems.
Now, usually, the last two are close together. If you're lucky you can shoot
an arrow and kill another of them without being noticed, but there's also a
chance you'll blow your cover. In which case, L2 with the SMG works a treat.
Then reason I've told you to go stealth with this part is because if you blast
your way through these three, you'll be quickly met with another couple of
soldiers hiding up ahead, and they can take you down before you know where
they are.
Once past, head through the rock alley and the facility will come into view.
(Checkpoint)
----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find a way into the MG Facility.
----------------------------------------------------------
There are a couple of paras grazing outside the facility. If you leave them
alone, they should do the same to you. Once past them you will notice there
are two guards patrolling the grass area. Equip the knife and use stealth to
take them down. You don't want to alert anyone to your presence right now.
Once you have dispelled these two, climb the massive ladder to the small
outpost where you will find some arrows. Equip the bow and look down to the
left. You will see some raptor eggs and, to the right, more soldiers. It's
time to lure the raptors and let them do all the hard work. Shoot an arrow
into the eggs and enjoy the show. Pick off whoever is left and return to the
ground. If a siren is wailing, they know you're there so be careful. If not,
continue with the stealth until you alert them. Going with the plan that you
haven't alerted them - take out the guard patrolling to the left of the
compound, and then watch the balcony above, there should be a couple
patrolling up there. If you're low on ammo head up to the storeroom on the
balcony. You'll also find a pistol in there if you wish to use it. I
personally can never be bothered since it has to reload frequently. It's
reasonably powerful, though.
With the guards down, head through the doors. (Checkpoint)
------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Explore the MG Facility.
------------------------------------------------
When you split up with Slade the door you take will open onto another group of
soldiers patrolling ahead. It's quite hard to remain stealthy here, so fire
from behind cover. Beware the soldier that often hides behind the first crate
on the right, as he will take you down if you're not aware of his presence.
However, he's not always there. I have encountered him hiding 75% of the time,
which is enough for the tip. After killing the guards, you can take a left
into another store room. Here you will find the Blackfly Sticky Bomb Gun, a
personal favourite, although its use in the facility will be limited.
With your weapon selections made, head through the green-lit door. Immediately
ahead you'll see a guy walking. If you're quick you can take him out using the
knife, or just shoot with the bow from further away. There are two other
guards patrolling on this lower level, so be as silent as you can. If you
alert them, watch the stairs as you can dispose of a couple more without them
ever getting a shot off at you. When you feel comfortable, head up the stairs.
Depending on the stairs you take (I always go to the one to the right of the
door you came in from), two guards will run at you. Quickly kill them before
you get in too much trouble. If they hit you, use the stairs as cover while
you recover. Now you have to watch the right side because about three more
guards will start firing at you. They can use the nearby crates as cover, so
try and put them down before they reach them. A guy with a pistol will flank
you from behind, so quickly run down the stairs and allow him to come to you.
There may be another straggler to deal with, but apart from that it's time to
ascend to the next level.
As you come up the stairs be prepared for a guard to rudely chuck down a
flaming explosive barrel. Don't get too close or you'll be blown up. The guy
who chucked that barrel down is sitting at the top of the stairs. Take out
your revenge on him. Remember that descending the stairs will probably save
your life as the firefight can get pretty heavy. If you're playing Inhuman and
you get to the third level, be prepared for the soldiers to run down to the
lower level and attack you from below. Fight your way through the guards,
carefully taking out the two hiding behind the railing in front of the door to
your next destination. Head over there when you're safe. (Checkpoint)
To the right of the computer screens you'll find some SMG ammo and a grenade.
Head back and go to the left, following the corridor down a ramp. (Checkpoint)
Shoot the single guard walking down here. The door to the left leads to a
storage room if you still want more ammo. You can stock up fully on grenades
if you haven't already. We'll start using them soon. Head back out and through
the open doors with the flashing orange lights. You'll immediately get shot
at, which is always a good sign. If you just stand back from the door some of
them will come to you, which really makes life so much easier. For the rest,
you'll have to attend to them yourselves. There are guards to the left and
right of the catwalk across from you. You can take these guys out by zooming
with the SMG, as they're too quick-moving for the bow. Be aware that on one of
the higher catwalks there is a guy shooting at you too. If you can, take him
out. The longer you stay in the doorway keeping him alive the more chance
he'll chuck a well-placed grenade at you. When everything becomes weirdly
silent and the catwalk creaks under your weight head forward and then left
(you could also descend the ladder to the left of the doorway to clean out the
lower level, but I've found this is only necessary on Inhuman). Chances are
you'll get shot at again. Take cover wherever possible and slowly make your
way up the nearby stairs. A couple of guys will run down at you with SMGs, but
for some reason their aiming is always terrible. There'll be another two guys
once you ascend the stairs. One of them is standing beside an explosive
barrel. Shoot it and laugh at him. If you wanted to climb to the top catwalk
you can, but there's nothing much of interest up there.
Now you're on to the second half of this large room. Once again, everything is
deceptively silent. If you go too far forward you'll be flanked like crazy,
especially on Inhuman. Hang back and make good use of cover once the guards
show themselves. It wouldn't hurt to chuck a grenade at the two guards
straight ahead near the next door because that will prevent one of them from
charging at you. After killing them, run towards the door blasting the two
that come out to stop you, then head through into the next room. (Checkpoint)
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Slade.
------------------------------------------
It seems Slade has found a way out. Now all you have to do is get there. Head
down past the crates and climb the ladder. From above, you'll see three guards
standing around doing their job poorly. They deserve a grenade. If you can hit
them all at once you'll get an achievement ribbon.
Another guard will run through the door, but honestly, he's pathetic. If you
picked up the sticky bomb gun earlier and have kept it this whole time, you'll
probably see why I told you it was a waste of time. You certainly won't need
it for this grueling section.
---------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Help Slade.
---------------------------------
All you have to do here is ward off the guards. The only two of concern are
the guy on the next level and the one with the pistol. They can kill you
quickly if you're not careful. (Checkpoint)
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get on the elevator.
------------------------------------------
Ah, isn't Turok a jokester?
Hop on the elevator.
--------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Help Slade.
--------------------------------
Welcome to a hellish part of the game. It's a severe jump in difficulty, so
chances are you'll die plenty of times. Couple that with the fact there are no
checkpoints for quite some time. Best of luck to you, but it seriously can be
done without too much stress.
I like to run to the opposite side of the elevator as Slade, and position
myself in the middle of the crates facing out onto the level platforms. That
way, I get good cover from the back and am free to take out enemies from the
one direction. I recommend trying this if you're having trouble. Also, this
side doesn't have to deal with the explosive barrels that are dropped from
above.
So, from the position I've described, take out the guy who appears to the left
on the next floor up. He's your only trouble so far, while it seems Slade is
firing away going through hell. Now you'll get a little breather. The
explosive barrels will get dropped down but you won't be affected. Above, a
guy will fire down at you, but Slade always seems to deal with him for me.
When you reach Sub Level 2, look to the left again and take out another enemy.
The next platform above has a guy running from the right. You need to take him
out as he has a deadly pistol (extremely important for Inhuman).
--------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Destroy the blast door override.
--------------------------------------------------------
Oh great, they've now sealed the doors. When the elevator stops run out and
hide in the ammo storage area. It has the appearance of a cage. You'll be well
protected from the gunshots and can take the enemies out easier. It's
important you take out all balcony enemies before going up there or they'll
tear you apart. This is certainly crucial on Inhuman. Two enemies will rush
out to protect the override switch so quickly kill them. Then it's just a
matter of blasting the thing apart.
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get on the elevator.
------------------------------------------
Now you have to get back on the elevator. There will be two guards to the
right and two to the left (on the opposite balcony). Deal with the right side
first as they are closer, using the wall as cover. When Ron Perlman
continually orders you to 'Get on!' feel free to tell him to shut up.
--------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Help Slade.
--------------------------------
This time, stay next to Slade, he's very helpful. A guy will run from the left
and shoot from below. Deal with him if you can. Otherwise, the only real
concern is a guy that appears above. Always look up and be ready to take him
out as Slade will do the rest for you. This includes Inhuman mode.
Congratulations, was that stressful? I found it amazingly relieving when I
finished the elevator part for the first time. (Checkpoint and Cinematic)
=============
7.4 Death Valley
=============
A grim setting. Take the left route. You'll hear a roar and see a couple of
paras fleeing. Next thing Slade says there's a T-Rex and you see it. Quickly
run to the log to the right for safety. There is a lot of speculation as to
whether it's a T-Rex or Gigantosaurus. I'm going to trust Ron Perlman here,
and say it's a male T-Rex, distinguished from the female because of the crests
above its eyes.
---------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet Slade at the cave entrance.
---------------------------------------------------------
If you want to - from the safety of your log - watch the T-Rex fight with a
couple of raptors. Once you're satisfied, head out the back of the log. There
are a number of raptors on the prowl. Do your best to avoid them and kill
whatever comes near you. Follow your objective arrow. You'll be heading
towards the flaming wreckage not too far away. I recommend equipping the knife
as you can move faster. Also, if you still have the sticky bomb gun put it to
good use and create a meat fountain by blowing up some of the raptors. Once
you catch up to Slade, jump down into the cave. (Checkpoint)
----------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find a way out of the caves.
----------------------------------------------------
This is now the section of the game they used for the demo, and they've made
it harder in the full version. Head down and to the right, crouching and
collecting the ammo and grenade. Follow this process through the next couple
of areas. In one you will find a couple of pistols if you want to equip them.
I wouldn't recommend them, though. (Checkpoint)
You'll hear someone get ripped apart. As you come up to the body, Slade will
take the shotgun and fire a flare. 'Raptors!' - three of the devils. Use the
knife for some easy kills, unless you're playing Inhuman, in which case it's
much harder to knife them. Once you've finished them, head up one level. As
you near the first nest a raptor will struggle out. Throw a grenade for a meat
fountain. The next nest along (if you have the sticky bomb gun) feel free to
use its secondary function. If you're lucky you'll discover the raptor nest
glitch I sometimes come across: if the raptor explodes right outside its nest
it will be stuck in midair, legs swinging. It'll also change colour. It's a
great effect if you can do it. The other place to try it is coming up.
Anyway, another raptor will charge from the opening up ahead. Deal with it
like the rest. By this stage you know how to kill them, so I'll just warn you
how many await. In the second section there are five - one from a nest, two
from ahead, and two from behind. Once they're dead walk over the tricky
bridge, which crumbles beneath your weight, leaving you on a lower level.
Somehow Slade managed to get across to the other side, even though he was
probably behind you. (Checkpoint)
Ahead, beside the dead guy, are arrows and a shotgun. A good weapon
combination is the SMG and shotgun, so I'd recommend heading into the next bit
with those two. Head straight over to the rocks that overlook the scene below
(raptors killing two guards) and shoot a flare onto one of the dinosaurs. This
will make them fight with each other, which is handy considering there are
about fifteen to deal with. Stay on the rock so it's harder for them to get to
you and double blast with your SMG and shotgun. They won't last long. Once
you've cleared the area grab some ammo from the dead guards and go to the
left, which will take you up a slope. A raptor will jump from above when
you're not looking, so kill it. Just ahead there are two more raptors feasting
on another guard. Dispose of them and then climb the vines to the jungle.
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Slade.
------------------------------------------
Head forwards, either ignoring or killing the compies and Turok will radio
Slade. (Checkpoint)
Jump down the ledge, collect the ammo from the guy behind and then head into
the log. Immediately it will shake and then, just ahead, a Dilophosaurus will
kill a raptor. Trivia: the dilophosaurus shown in Jurassic Park (it killed
Wayne Knight - the fat guy from Seinfeld) was actually misrepresented. The
dilophosaurus didn't actually have a frill, nor did it spit. It was also 8
feet tall, not the size shown in the movie. Regardless, Jurassic Park is an
awesome film.
There's an amazing knife kill animation on the dilo, but you need to make it
topple over. You can do this in a number of ways. Either throw a well placed
grenade, or use the sticky bomb gun's secondary feature (if you still have
it). Otherwise, just blast it dead straight away. Then a bunch of raptors will
attack you. They're easy to deal with using the shotgun. Oh and for a
beefcake, Slade really knows his dinos ...
More raptors will attack near the water, and then if you head right down the
diversion track you'll find some ammo and another raptor. This one, even
though it's dead, always seems to knock you back. I noticed that in the demo,
too, but they didn't fix it.
Head back across the water and climb the vines. (Cinematic)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Head towards the smoke on the horizon.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Reese is awesome. I love his calm nature.
Head up to the Parasaurolophus. I find, for a herbivore, they're really
violent, so I make a point of killing every single one I see. Continue on.
(Checkpoint)
===========
7.5 Reunions
===========
(Cinematic)
--------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Investigate wreckage at hilltop.
--------------------------------------------------------
This is the last section of the demo, for those who haven't played it. Sneak
down and knife the guard in the grass. Now you have multiple options of
approaching this situation:
- Shoot arrows into the two guards patrolling below
- Fire a flare to lure the nearby raptors towards the guards
- Sneak up on the guards and knife them
If you raise the alarm, it doesn't matter - there are plenty of places to hide
in this area. I'll go on to describe my personal tactics. I like to shoot the
guards with arrows, which occasionally raises the alarm if I happen to miss.
By this time the raptors have jumped down. I kill them and then move on.
Simple.
After the first part is done, run over to where the path starts sloping
upwards. If you sit back in the grass you can see a guard walking down,
oblivious of your presence. Take him out with an arrow. Turn left to the big
tree trunk to find a raptor nest. This is where you can plant that sticky bomb
gun explosive for the "glitch", if you so choose. But the real purpose of
venturing over here is to pick up the Pulse Rifle. You'll use this quite a bit
from now on, as it's useable in almost every situation, and is really powerful
against the dinosaurs.
Climb the slope and then the vines to the far left. Walk forwards a little and
pull out your bow. Take out the guard patrolling the cliff face above. Now
move further ahead and a helicopter will descend, releasing three guards. Use
the rock to your left as cover and watch for a raptor that'll attack you
unless you can lure it away with a flare. If you manage to do this, and it
stays alive, it'll help clear out some of the enemies further ahead. You'll
start to notice the variations in human enemies. "Team Leaders" have a much
different look to those carrying shotguns and SMGs. According to the
developers, if you take out these guys first it causes the rest of the squad
to become disoriented.
For this section there's not much I can say apart from take cover constantly,
and take them out one by one. Once you think you have the upper hand,
particularly around the area with the rocks on top of the cliff, then push
forwards hard. And remember; use the pulse rifle's secondary function -
disruption grenades. They will throw your enemies out from cover.
Once you are past that excellent combat sequence head along down the path.
There will be a dead raptor ahead with blood marks leading along the ground
and up the tree to the top of the cliff. If you're quick enough you can catch
a glimpse of what killed the raptor. (Checkpoint)
Walk forwards. (Cinematic)
This is your first of a few encounters with Lurkers - a mixture of reptiles
and jungle cats. They're ferocious, quick as hell, and a real pain. If you ask
me, they move more like a ferret.
The lurkers follow the same pattern. Run, attack, retreat. They climb trees
and bounce all over the place. If you manage to get a shot off and kill them
it's always relieving because otherwise they'll pounce on you and you'll have
to button mash them off. Still, the knife kill animations are great. The pulse
rifle and shotgun are best for these guys.
Head left, fighting them one by one. Slade will be with you for support while
Reese scouts ahead. On Inhuman, these guys are very hard. Once you pass
beneath the log take a right and you'll see Reese. If you want to get out of
this place fast then you can take the next left, which is opposite Reese.
However, I did this on Inhuman because I can't stand these creatures but they
managed to follow me and brought me down. Haha, the choice is yours I guess.
Once you're through there you get a (checkpoint).
Walk down to the crash site. (Cinematic)
'Hell yeah ... I've been blasting lizards all morning, now I can fry 'em!' -
classic.
==================
7.6 Ghost in the Shadow
==================
---------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find Comm. Unit
---------------------------------------
I love the orange tinge in this chapter.
You'll start off in a very open area. Stick to the path by the left wall for
now and climb the moss-covered rock ledge. This will open up a view of an
archway. On either side of the archway are two lurkers, and there is a third
around the back, just in view. Take out your bow and aim for their heads to
kill them instantly. They aren't moving for once.
Head down through the archway to the wreckage and scavenge around for whatever
ammo you can use. Also here are the tek arrows (explosives). You can equip
them by pressing R1. Climb up the ledge and drop down. (Checkpoint)
In the large clearing to the left you will find lurkers on the trees. They'll
be your only problem while getting across the area. Once you reach the other
side, climb the rock ledges and collect the ammo from your fallen squad
member. Continuing along the linear path you'll encounter another buddy, dead.
And then, oh no, it's John Grimes. (Cinematic and checkpoint)
If you climb over the tree trunk onto the rock island in the middle of the
next area you can then jump over to the ledge for a grenade and shotgun ammo.
Then it's just a matter of dropping down the triangular rock crevice into a
creepy raptor nest. Use the pulse rifle, knife or shotgun for quicker kills.
Make sure you look in every direction while walking through this part as
raptors can come out of nests quickly without you realising.
Continue through the log up the slope and you'll find some soldiers shooting
Cowboy (voiced by the excellent Timothy Olyphant [Die Hard 4, Deadwood]).
Don't become too tempted to knife everyone; you'll probably get shot dead,
particularly on the harder modes. Instead, shoot from the log. Once you clear
the area press on with Cowboy. (Checkpoint)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Reach the rendezvous point with Cowboy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The first thing you'll notice is a soldier fighting a dilophosaurus. Allow the
soldier to be killed and then unleash on the dilo, unless you want it to
attack the other MG soldiers, which is probably for the best. These soldiers
all have pulse rifles and use cover quite well. Stay by the right cliff face
and pop out long to enough to kill one at a time, if not two. There'll be
plenty of ammo just ahead if you ever run dry in the next area.
As you run up the slope, there'll be a guy standing above. The back of his
head is just visible. Kill him stealthily. You won't be able to remain silent
for long, though. Make sure you take out the guy with the chain gun on the
opposite side of the outpost. Use an arrow for better accuracy. There's also a
second chain gun below the ridge to the left, and someone will make good use
of it if you're not too careful. In this section, you'll spend a majority of
your time picking off enemies as they look out from cover. They also drop down
from two helicopters, so a well-placed grenade will work wonders.
If an enemy is near one of the explosive tanks, then blow it up. The battle
won't last very long if you kill them tactically. (Cinematic and checkpoint)
===============
7.7 Mother Superior
===============
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Search the area for the Communications Unit.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow the path that takes your fancy. You may have to kill a couple of the
mini-raptors. Eventually, Buster will discover an old outpost ... and then gets
sniped in the head. (Checkpoint)
Race across to the nearest tree for cover. The sound of the sniper bullets
whipping past is priceless. Equip the bow and get a general idea of where the
sniper on the left is standing. Once you feel confident pull back and nail
him. The arrow will need to be held long enough for it to be effective at such
a long distance. Repeat the process for the sniper on the right. By this
stage, you should start hearing the raptors. As long as you stay hidden, the
majority of them will race down to attack the soldiers. There might be one
that takes a fancy to you.
With the snipers down proceed along the right wall. Use the large trunk for
cover and zoom in with the bow if you find a target. Otherwise, make your way
steadily down to the outpost. Be tactical here. Use cover very wisely and make
good use of the pulse rifle's disruption grenades. I tend to hide in the far
right corner where I can take out enemies from all sides. When there are more
than two coming towards me I shoot a disruption grenade to separate them and
kill them before they can get back up. In total, there are about seven
soldiers who will attack you once you reach the outpost. (Checkpoint)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Search the area for the Communications Unit.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walk up to where the sniper was and grab his weapon. To zoom in press L2 and
then to get more magnification press L1. The maximum is 10x.
You will now have to fight the siege of enemies landing from the helicopters.
The sniper is very useful for enemies at a distance, but once they get closer
you should take them out with the pulse rifle. Should you run out of ammo
there is a supply on the right side of the compound (if you are looking back
the way you came from). Make sure you cover to your left because enemies will
flank you there at every opportunity. Once they're all dead you get a
(checkpoint).
It's now time to introduce the Utahraptors. This species has stegosaurus-like
spikes on its back and a massive neck, which it uses to store and spit venom
at you. They're essentially the same as the other raptors and are no harder.
Three or four of them will attack you as you attempt to leave the outpost.
Continue through the forest. (Checkpoint)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Continue search for Communications Unit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
After you cross the log over the valley something starts shaking the ground.
Now is the chapter title Mother Superior starting to make sense? Continue past
the poor frightened compies. (Checkpoint)
You'll come into a clearing with a part of your ship. There are enemies all
over it. The guy who you are partnered with on this mission, Gonzalez, is
really annoying. His catchphrase 'See you on the flipside, baby!' seriously
grates me. Especially when he repeats it over and over. But enough with my
opinions. Use the bow or sniper for the first of these soldiers. Once they
come running at you switch to the pulse rifle and mow them down. Next, look
for a ledge in the distance - a sniper will appear there and hit you if you're
not careful. Return the favour with your own sniper rifle. You'll encounter
some more utahraptors when you make it down to the crash site, and then a
helicopter will drop some more troops but apart from that this section is
pretty easy.
When you have cleared the area of enemies your objective will come up again.
Then the ground starts shaking. The inevitable is coming ... (Cinematic)
YES! The smile on my face when that guy died (who almost rivals Bill Paxton
from Aliens for most annoying) was massive. But the more pressing matter is
that the T-Rex took the Comm. Unit. Climb the steps it created under its
weight and head left. (Checkpoint)
-------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Retrieve the Comm. Unit.
-------------------------------------------------
It's raining now, but there are certainly no cats or dogs ...
Drop down the ledges into what appears to be a large nesting site. Raptors?
Nope. Take a tentative step forward - these guys creep me out. Baby T-Rexes.
It's extremely hard, on Inhuman, to get a knife kill on them. But do it on
Normal or Hard - the cry they give off is chilling. This part creeps me out.
There are quite a few of the beasts, and pulse rifles take them out quickly on
Inhuman. Other difficulties almost beg for the knife kills, they're just so
fun. Head on up the slope, kill the three that come at you there, and then
send a tek arrow into the one feasting near the crevice. Walk on through the
mist. (Checkpoint and cinematic)
------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Kill the T-Rex.
------------------------------------
Plenty of people seem confused by this boss fight as well as some of the
others. It's actually very simple. Equip the knife so you can run faster and
head immediately under the cover of the tree in the centre of the clearing.
Mother Superior can't get to you there, although she'll stick her head through
the gap to try and grab you, but this is easily avoided. All it takes are a
couple of pulse rifle clips to the head and she goes down. Once she is on the
ground you have to run forward at her head with the knife and press R2. This
will end the fight.
Alternatively, if you don't have the pulse rifle then you can still use the
shotgun, especially when she sticks her head under the tree. The sticky bomb
gun can also help in this situation if you are low on ammo. (Checkpoint)
-----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Whiskey Company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
It will be night time when you wake up. Compies are groveling around you and
all your weapons have been lost. Just to the left of the tree in front of you
will be the pulse rifle, so pick it up. Then head back and to the right of the
tree will be the shotgun. Now the eerie music begins. Take any path you like
from here because they will end up at the same place. You can grab some ammo
from the body next to the tree because you'll have to face some tough
dinosaurs in a minute. Once the two paths have joined again head down the
slope. A dilophosaurus will come running at you. Use the pulse rifle for a
quicker kill. There are two dilos in this area, although on Inhuman I once
encountered four. If you find you are having trouble with this area (as you
have to fight some raptors as well) then there is a great shortcut that will
get you straight to your next destination.
Shortcut: from where the level begins, take the right path down to the ledge
that looks down on the dead body beside the tree and where the first
dilophosaurus runs at you. Jump down the ledge and immediately to the right
there is a walkway through the rocks. Run down there, collecting the pulse
rifle ammo and grenades if you need them and walk into the log. You may have
to be quick because the first dilophosaurus will chase after you. Then, at the
end of the log, you come across the entrance to another facility. All you have
to do is drop down to it. If you went the action-packed way then it's also
very easy to find the facility, just make sure you don't miss the ammo
sprinkled beside the trees.
As you head down the stairs you'll find a raptor feasting on a body. Knife it
and then pry open the door. Head down the stairs and open the next door.
(Checkpoint)
Something is inside this place, as you'll notice when objects start getting
pushed aside. Head up and to the left and you'll reach a room full of filing
cabinets. There's an SMG in here if you want it with full ammo. Follow the
path around the bend and the raptor making all the noise will come into sight.
Kill it and then get on the auto turret. You can use this to mow down the five
or so raptors that come at you, but its ammo is fairly limited. If you want
some pulse rifle ammo and more grenades, follow the path around the corner.
Otherwise, head up the stairs. (Checkpoint)
There's a sniper rifle beside the body. I usually take it because I put it to
good use in this next bit. Walk across and drop down onto the rock ledge. To
the left will be more ammo, but I doubt you still need it. Follow the ledge to
the right. When you're in a position to see the other side of the first spire-
like rock, take out your sniper rifle and zoom in on the lurker. Shoot it in
the head to save some time. It's really hard to see the other one, but I'm
only saying that because I haven't found it. If you can't see it, then as you
walk along it'll attack you. No big deal. Because it's so dark they can be a
minor hassle. You can now explore what's below (nothing much) or continue
along the ledge. Once you hit the grass just keep beside the right wall and
you'll come to some steps with a couple of lights on them.
=============
7.8 Killing Fields
=============
(Cinematic and checkpoint)
--------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Defend the crash site.
--------------------------------------------
These guys just don't give up. This is the section where combat really becomes
serious. You'll be introduced to some new MG troops.
Firstly, take good note of the RPG ammo to the left of where you start. You'll
need this soon. Now step out from this part of the wreckage. There may be two
soldiers close by, in which case kill them. Many of the others, though, will
be further away. You can use arrows to pick off some of them, but mostly use
the pulse rifle. It's important you stick near the rest of your squad, because
they will actually provide you good cover and support.
There are a couple of squad leaders on the MG side. You will notice them
because they are wearing heavier armor. They look similar to the pulse rifle
carriers. There are plenty of places to hide in this part, but the same goes
for the enemy. The little alcove under a piece of the wreckage to the left
always draws a couple of soldiers with the purpose of flanking you. If you can
get under there and hold your position you can get off some accurate shots,
but once again you'll be open to flanking from behind. Of course, it will be
obvious that using cover will get you through this section.
When Cowboy tells you to ammo up do so. By this stage you should have advanced
near to where the helicopters have been landing. Collect as much pulse rifle
ammo as you can and then a third helicopter will drop down. This is the
introduction to the Heavy Weapons MG soldiers. They're really tough and can
end you quickly.
-------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Eliminate the Heavy Weapons MG.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The best way of disposing these guys is to aim for the head. If you hit them
there they generally go down in one shot. Never stray into the open for two
long. It's all about popping up from cover long enough to send a few rounds
into them and then hiding again. Never let them flank you.
One of the soldiers will deploy the mini-gun as a turret and then run off to
flank you. Kill him because he's no longer as dangerous and then shoot the
turret until it blows. No doubt the turret will turn on you (they're smart
machines), so you'll have to run back and forth between cover. (Checkpoint)
--------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Help Slade stop the attack.
--------------------------------------------------
Cowboy will tell you grab the chain gun - do so. Stock up on the ammo from the
other chain guns left lying around the area, then head up the slope. Another
six soldiers will be waiting at the top. Kill them quickly before they can get
a shot on you, and then run to where they were. Alternatively, if you picked
up the sniper rifle earlier, then you can climb up the ledge to the right of
the helicopter landing area and snipe the soldiers from up there.
Use Jericho for help to mow down the soldiers in the next section. Shoot from
the archway, making good use of a disruption grenade. Once the area is clear,
cautiously move forwards. Keep fighting the guys to the right and eventually
you will be thrown to the ground because of an explosion. A brief cut scene
will show you a soldier with an RPG. As soon as you get back on your feet
blast him dead with the pulse rifle before he can do any more damage. You'll
have to do this quick because he has backup nearby. On Inhuman, shoot a
disruption grenade up there otherwise you'll be swamped. Do not run back to
the previous area unless you have the RPG, otherwise you're in a lot of
trouble! So stay in this area, killing off the remaining soldiers. Once done,
collect the RPG.
-----------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Return to the crash site.
-----------------------------------------------
Head back to the previous area. A spider tank will appear, looking dangerous
as hell.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Collect RPG ammo from the crash site.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The trick to beating this tank is to move ... quickly. As soon as it comes
crashing out don't gawk at, just run. Equip the knife and head to the right
through the log. From there, stay on track to the right, passing under all
available cover. If you're lucky, you will have made it to the RPG ammo back
at where this level started (hopefully you remembered where it was). Stock up.
------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Destroy the Spider Tank.
------------------------------------------------
From the safety of cover, use the rocket launcher's secondary fire mode, which
is a lock-on tool. Now move slowly out from cover and lock on to the machine.
Once the light goes red fire and then hide again before the tank can hit you
with a rocket. If you're getting hit and don't like this method (you may find
this on Inhuman), there's a way to hit the tank without ever going out from
cover:
- to the left of the cover with the RPG ammo there is a very small spot where
the lock-on tool will pick up the spider tank. The tank will be firing crazily
at you, but it won't be able to break through the barrier. All you have to do
is hit it from this spot three times and it will go down. Easy. (Checkpoint
and cinematic)
=================
7.9 The Shortest Straw
=================
-------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Investigate the light in the distance.
-------------------------------------------------------------
You'll start the chapter equipped with a shotgun and mini-gun. Head along the
path (splits up just to give an open feel) dealing with the mini-raptors that
attack. The only thing that should interest you is getting up onto the
overhanging log that connects to the two ledges. At one end of that log you'll
find some chain gun ammo and grenades. Soon enough you'll come across some
raptors feasting. One of them will suddenly be taken through a hole in the
ground. I wonder what that could've been? Kill whatever raptors remain and
look down the hole. If you jump down there you die ... but what can I say, I
couldn't resist temptation. If ever you get lost just follow the objective
arrow by pressing R3.
Head between the rocks with all the mist and rain falling from above. Parts of
a raptor will suddenly drop before you. It seems that the raptors are prey to
everything on this planet - the lurkers, T-rex, and now whatever just did
this. The lightning effects are cool, and they will display the compound
nicely. Carter is being a wimp and Slade's commentary is fair enough. Walk
over to the door and pry it open.
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Investigate the area.
------------------------------------------
Move over to the computers. (Cinematic and checkpoint)
Carter will get eaten.
-------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find a way out.
-------------------------------------
It's fun to kill the giant scorpions (or soldier bugs), so have some fun for a
bit. When you're satisfied head over to the stairs which are to the left of
the computer screens. There's also some more chain gun ammo in the corner.
Once you're on the roof the camera will zoom in on a helicopter. (Checkpoint)
-------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get to the helicopter.
-------------------------------------------
Head down the broken ramp onto the crate below. The scorpions will start
bursting out from the ground. Shoot any with the shotgun that come near the
crates and then jump down to the ground. Deploy the mini-gun as a turret by
pressing R1 and it'll help do most of the damage. You can now collect a second
shotgun to the right from the box to dual wield. Also, around the corner near
the wide door are some more tek arrows. Over by the next ladder, around the
corner, is a storeroom. You can pick up another chain gun in here or stock up
on some shotgun ammo. Now climb the ladder. There are some more scorpions to
deal with here, but mainly head over to the helicopter. Just as you're about
to get to it the ground explodes below and you fall underground. (Checkpoint
and cinematic)
You now have my favourite weapon, the flamethrower. Coupled with the napalm
grenades it's so much fun to use, especially on the scorpions. Flame the three
in this section and then collect the ammo in the alcove to the left of where
you started. Always make sure you reload before collecting ammo so you're
fully stocked up.
The roof will start shaking as you make your way through the cave, but don't
worry. Ahead there is a walkway joining the land across the chasm below. It is
important you jump onto this walkway as walking onto it will cause you to
tumble to your death. Jump across the gap that forms and make it to the other
side. Your progress will be blocked by some rocks (stalactites, I guess). The
way to clear the path is simple, stand back, watch the orange air vent, and
when you see the gas pop up shoot some flames onto it, causing an explosion.
This will demolish the rocks. Keep this in mind for later on in this chapter.
Once the path is clear, collect the ammo to your left.
Two more scorpions will be waiting for you along the path, but they're nothing
you can't handle. The next room is easy to navigate. Just follow the lights
ahead and you'll make it to a small gap in the rocks. Continue on. (Checkpoint)
The following section is good fun, but doesn't need explanation. Simply follow
the network of caverns, fighting off the scorpions and blasting the rocks
blocking your way. When you reach the large pit area, be careful not to jump
from the very top as you may die. Jump from level to level until you reach the
bottom. Eventually you will come to a place with a lot of stalactites.
(Checkpoint)
Head down the slope to the underground lake. (Checkpoint)
Collect the ammo to the left by the gas vent and then head over to the bridge-
like structure to the right. (Cinematic)
-----------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Kill the beast.
-----------------------------------
Like many people, I had so much trouble killing this massive eel the first
time I played through, always when it threw the two stalactites. Now, though,
I win first time on Inhuman without any problems. If you're having
difficulties, then follow what I say and it won't be as hard as you've led
yourself to think.
The Beast's attack rotation:
Rotation 1:
- the head attacks
Rotation 2:
- tentacle swipes 3 times
- goes underwater
- the head attacks
Rotation 3:
- tentacle throws a rock 3 times
- goes underwater
- the head attacks
Rotation 4:
- two tentacles take a stalactite each off of the roof and throw them
- goes underwater
- the head attacks ONCE only
Remember when I told you about the gas vents being important? This is the time
to use them. The Beast's head will rush in to try and grab you, when it does
this shoot the vent to flame its head. Note, though, that you must pay
attention to which vent is blowing gas. Only one does each rotation, and it
changes after you flame it. The vent on the right is always the starter.
After you have successfully flamed the Beast a first time (it will shake its
head), then run all the way over to the left side and stay back against the
wall. The Beast's second attack rotation is to swing its tentacles at you. If
you're in the right position it won't be able to reach you. The tentacle whips
past three times. Afterwards, the Beast returns underwater for a few seconds.
This is the time to run over to the vent which is now giving off gas. Wait for
the head to come at you and shoot the flame. If you don't hit it directly the
first time it won't matter, you'll get another chance. If you keep missing,
then you'll have to dodge another tentacle swipe.
Once hit, the Beast will now throw a single rock at you. I'm not very good at
dodging these ones but they don't do enough damage to worry you. I think it's
better to roll to avoid this attack. It'll go back underwater and now you can
flame it a third time.
If you've angered it enough you'll now be on the final rotation. When the two
stalactites are thrown at you always make sure you are never in the middle of
their range. I tend to stick to the left piece of rock and dive to the left,
avoiding any damage from the right one. It's also important to stay closer to
the water and to jump if you feel it is necessary. The only problem you may
face is if you're stuck on the left side and the gas is coming out of the far
right vent. In which case, equip the knife and run as fast as you can to make
it before the Beast does its single charge during this rotation. If this
didn't make sense, here is how I would go about beating the boss on the fourth
rotation:
- stick to the left side and as the two stalactites are thrown run down near
the water and jump to the left, then quickly walk back to avoid the tentacles.
- stay on the left side for the second wave, marking the travel route of the
left stalactite - roll if necessary
- repeat for the third wave
You will never be damaged enough to die if you follow those instructions and
perform them correctly. Recovery time is surprisingly short, even on Inhuman,
so by the time the Beast reaches for the final two stalactites before going
back underwater, you're back to full health.
Jump over the Beast and head up the slope. (Checkpoint)
-----------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get back to the surface.
-----------------------------------------------
Now you'll have to fight a horde of scorpions. If you use the flamethrower
that can be picked up at the checkpoint then you can keep them from attacking
you while killing them at the same time. Don't worry about wasting your napalm
grenades; there are two places where you can grab more ammo. Plus, the
grenades are fun to watch and can really help if you're backed into a corner.
As you fight your way through to the next part continue to make good use of
the gas vents to clear out the scorpions. In the end you'll be rewarded with a
(checkpoint).
Continue ahead and you'll see a soldier thrown across the room. As you enter a
scorpion will pin down another one. Shoot a napalm grenade to kill them both
then grab the pulse rifle sitting on the box. Climb the ladder. On top there
will be two guards. Either use a disruption grenade to separate them or shoot
a tek arrow, as you won't have grenades. If you're lucky they'll be dead
quickly, otherwise race for cover. If you decide to jump back down the stairs
they'll throw grenades in after you.
There are soldiers on the second platform across, and a guy runs over to man
the chain gun in the right corner of cavern. These are your main threats for
now. There are numerous ways of approaching this situation. I'll list the
method I've used successfully for all difficulties:
Use tek arrows to take out the two soldiers at the top of the first stairs,
then drop down the ledge in front of you. In this pit are scorpions, so be
careful. Head over to the right, following the wall, and you'll arrive at a
rock ramp. Walk up it and use the pulse rifle while jumping up and down to
kill enemies before they can get enough shots at you. When the ones
immediately in front of you are down, take aim on the soldier at the turret.
If you have pressed yourself up against the wall, the guy on the turret won't
have been able to shoot you. Finally, use an arrow to kill the sniper on the
opposite side of the cavern - you can target his head just over the top of the
ledge. Now run back across the pit to the ladder, collecting a couple of
grenades and some arrows. When you reach the top run to cover and shoot the
soldiers standing by the explosive tanks. Once they're down, head left and
grab the chain gun. Now jump over onto the next platform and deploy the chain
gun as a turret in a place where it has a good view of the opening ahead.
Stand behind cover and let it do the work, taking pop shots to finish off
enemies that avoid its barrage. After that you can advance forward, picking up
the ammo and swapping weapons if you so choose. Continue up. (Checkpoint)
At the top of the ladders are four guards. You can't really be stealthy here
without getting caught, so just chuck a grenade up there. This is a good
chance to get the 5,4,3,2,1, BOOM! ... achievement ribbon (you need to kill
three of them). Finish off the survivors and climb the next ladder.
(Checkpoint)
=============
7.11 Heroes End
=============
Finally, you'll be out of the caves.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Head north to reach the rest of Whiskey Company.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This chapter is probably my favourite out of the whole game.
It's time to mix-and-match your weapons. I love using the Blackfly on the
dilos, so pick it up if you have the same intentions. The sniper rifle,
however, will be very useful in a later part of this chapter. I'd say use up
your explosives then run back and swap out for the sniper.
You'll discover a landing pad ahead with some soldiers who are fighting two or
three dilos. One will eventually start charging towards you. Plant some
proximity mines and watch it topple over. The knife kill animation is great,
but on Inhuman I just can't get one! After you have disposed of the dilos,
you'll have to fend off the utahraptors, which, when they attack in a group,
are quite hard. Watch out when they spit their venom. Blasting them with the
pulse rifle works a treat if you're out of sticky bombs. You may want to use
the Blackfly to take out the two raptors feeding over the next rise before
swapping it out for the sniper. I never actually realized the utahraptors
hobble once they've been hit - it's a nice effect by the developers.
Follow the path upwards, killing the two raptors that come out of their nests.
(Checkpoint)
-----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Whiskey Company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Walk down the path. (Checkpoint)
Around the next corner an armored convoy is moving through the jungle. Whip
out the sniper rifle and take out whoever you can. This will unsettle
everybody, and some lurkers will come racing out. Stay well back and continue
sniping. When this is no longer an option, zoom with the pulse rifle. Your
main concern will be the soldiers that sneak around the left side and the
heavy weapons troop.
Depending on your style of play, the lurkers may just annoy you so much you
scream. I love to bring out the sniper, and when the backup arrives I always
take down the HW experts, but sometimes, just when I've lined up the perfect
shot a lurker leaps on me and by the time I've kicked the stupid thing off the
mini-gun has killed me instead.
For a run-and-gun style game head left through the trees and use cover when
you need it. It's pretty easy to gun them all down without dying. This part
showcases the polar gameplay styles on offer.
After you've killed all the soldiers a helicopter will fly in, but Logan will
shoot it down with an RPG. (Cinematic and checkpoint)
--------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find a way into the Substation.
--------------------------------------------------------
This part is hard, but fun. As soon as the guy above you dies, turn and run
for the rock closest to the wall. This will provide you with the best cover
for now. You'll need to shoot the guy who comes running down the little hill
to the left, and then aim at the guy on top of the ledge. After that, another
soldier with a shotgun will come down the hill. After this, make a run up the
hill yourself and then quickly grab the pulse rifle ammo from the guy on the
ledge. Now use your cover religiously as a bucket load of enemies come at you.
I always shoot a couple of disruption grenades to screw them up. Advance
through to the next wave and repeat the process. After you've dealt with them
switch out to the sniper rifle, as it's crucial for this part. There are two
heavy weapons experts just ahead, and from a distance you can snipe them in
the head, saving a heap of trouble. Also use the sniper on anyone who has
their back turned to you.
The other way around this level is to head through the forest. I've tried both
ways and the one I described is much more satisfying and easier. The other one
also makes good use of the sniper rifle, though, if that's your kind of thing.
When you reach a certain point you'll be blown to the ground by a helicopter.
(Checkpoint and cinematic)
With Logan dead, you need to pick up the rocket launcher to shoot down the
helicopter. Grab it as quick as you can and then switch out to the knife to
get to cover quicker. When the time is right lock on and blast it, you'll only
need the one rocket. For Inhuman, I tend to run all the way back to the big
rock and roll away as soon as I get the shot off.
Raptors now come out to cause some more trouble. Kill them and any soldiers
that still remain before pushing on underneath the bridge. Head along the path
through the rocks. (Checkpoint)
Some raptors will be feeding on a carcass ahead. Throw a grenade for a meat
fountain. A helicopter will descend and drop off some troops in the compound.
Deal with them at a distance. You can now climb the ladder to the right of the
compound to get the sniper rifle if you'd like. Otherwise, head inside the
compound (again, you can complete this section by going along the outside of
the compound - there are multiple ways). Pick off the enemies around the
crates near the parked tank. You're now covered from the soldier on the
turret, but you can take him out with a well-placed grenade. There is also a
soldier with an RPG up the stairs that you should watch out for. They never
have deadly aim but can be annoying.
-----------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Hold your position.
-----------------------------------------
Soldiers will come in tanks and helicopters. Take out as many as you can.
--------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get through the door.
--------------------------------------------
Run over and pry the door open. You shouldn't be hit by too many bullets.

7.12 Salt in a Wound
================
I really liked Jericho ...
Now you're stuck with Shepard, the pilot, voiced by Donnie Wahlberg - the
unsuccessful brother. Although he did play Duddits from Dreamcatcher, HA!
Walk down the ramps. (Checkpoint)
-----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Whiskey Company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
After you have pried open the door you'll hear some MG soldiers talking. One
will start patrolling ahead of you. Sneak up and knife him. The other will be
to the left, dispose of him as well. Two other soldiers will be further along,
using cover. Take out any other soldiers as you make your way down the
corridor. When you come to the stairs you'll meet your first flamethrower
soldier. These, like the heavy weapons experts, are heavily armored. Aim for
the head. Pick up his weapon if you like (I always do at this point). Now head
along the catwalk, killing the three guards you meet there - the last one
wielding a mini-gun. Shortly after you'll find some ammo for the flamethrower
and a Blackfly, if you feel like switching out (it can be put to good use very
shortly, though so can the flamethrower).
Head down the stairs and you'll know your cover has been completely blown.
Shoot a disruption grenade at the soldiers to the left and pick them off,
using the top of the stairs as cover. There's another heavy weapons expert
here and two shotgun-wielders. (Checkpoint)
You'll now have to wait for Reese to get the door open using the computer
system.
-----------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Hold your position.
-----------------------------------------
I recommend running out to cover the stairs, as it'll at least prevent some of
your enemies from getting too close. Pick off the easier soldiers and then aim
high for the heavy weapons and flamethrower enemies. The objective will only
become hard if you allow them to swamp you. I found it reasonably challenging
on Inhuman, compared with most of the combat earlier.
-----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Whiskey Company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Walk through the door and then pry open the next one. A raptor will leap onto
you. After you have fought it off kill the other two and then wait for the
elevator to become operational. Turok's 'I hear that,' is priceless.
(Checkpoint)
--------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find a ship to escape.
--------------------------------------------
Walk into the room to find the ship is destroyed. (Cinematic)
This is where you can make good use of the Blackfly or flamethrower. Enjoy
massacring your way through these raptors as they shouldn't give you much
trouble.
---------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get into the Control Room.
---------------------------------------------------
Go into the Control Room once Shepard opens the door. (Cinematic and
checkpoint)
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get out of the base.
------------------------------------------
Move up the stairs as the building starts to shake. (Checkpoint)
As soon as you step out onto the catwalk an MG helicopter will shoot at you.
-------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Destroy the MG Chopper.
-------------------------------------------------
Immediately start running left across the catwalk. If you get hit then use the
cover to regain health. You need to make your way over to the other side where
there is a rocket turret which will take down the chopper. It's all about
timing to get off the perfect shot. When you have the turret in your sight,
wait until the chopper is nearing the end of its fire. Don't wait until it
stops completely, otherwise it will gun you down just before you can get a
rocket off.
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get out of the base.
------------------------------------------
Shepard will unlock the doors. Go down the stairs and kill the raptor. Take
the next right out the green-lit door. (Checkpoint)

7.13 End of the Road
================
-----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Whiskey Company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
We're on the home stretch. With a volcano erupting in the distance this is
starting to feel very epic. There are five dilos over the next rise to deal
with. Use your explosives if you're interested in the knife kill. If you've
been reading the whole way, I managed to knife kill one here on Inhuman, but
I'm still convinced it's generally harder to perform knife kills on anything
but humans.
As you continue along don't be worried by the ash and rubble smashing down
around you. I've never been hit, but I think it's possible. Of course, avoid
the lava. It's not a one-hit-kill so you can explore its effects if you must.
Simply jump over the ledge he's standing on. (Checkpoint)
-----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Whiskey Company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Ah, flying insects now. They're very annoying. If you shoot them, they explode
into green gore. Lovely. Run across the bridge, shooting them if you can
manage it. They spit green venom that can be pretty deadly if you get caught
between a few of them.
-----------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Hold your position.
-----------------------------------------
On the other side of the bridge there is a ladder, but I don't recommend
climbing it. A turret awaits you above, but you'll also be cornered in a way.
The turret has limited ammo, as well. Shepard will go to one of the turrets on
ground level by the bridge, but then you can be attacked from above and to the
side where the turret can't reach. Therefore, just shoot while running and
you'll make it through easily enough.
-----------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Meet up with Whiskey Company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
(Cinematic and checkpoint)
------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Find a way into the base.
------------------------------------------------
Walk down the smouldering path, catching up to your squad. (Cinematic)
That's got to be my favourite cinematic. I was actually so surprised when
Reese died I shouted, 'No!' The look on Turok's face afterwards was excellent
as well. Nice characterisation at such a strange time. Anyway, back to
business.
---------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Breach the main vent.
---------------------------------------------
This is a long objective without a checkpoint for a while. Be very alert at
all times.
The gates to the facility will open and soldiers will shoot at you from below.
Pick off those you can get a sight on. Watch the trees to your right in case
enemies make it that far.
Soon enough, the T-Rex will come thumping out of the jungle and start eating
the soldiers by the gate. Enjoy the show. If you're busy enough, by the time
you're done with the soldiers the T-Rex will have walked off. If not, and
you're impatient, then at least wait until she moves off to the right and
turns her back on you. This is the best time to make a run for it. However,
you'll now be under stress to fight the numerous soldiers within the complex
and don't have the option of running back outside.
Assuming the T-Rex has left (thanks Cowboy) grab the late Reese's sniper rifle
and zoom in through the gate entrance. You can take out as many of the troops
as you want to. On Inhuman, make sure you always aim for the head as it takes
two shots to the chest to kill every form of soldier. Apparently, after
replaying this section, it now also takes two shots to the head as well, and
you get less ammo than on previous difficulties. Once your sniping is done
advance forward.
When you enter the complex, take note of the location of the mini-gun turrets.
One to the left, one to the right, and there'll be another above you which you
can't see. A soldier should be manning the one on the left to start off with.
Take him out with an arrow to the head and then jump down into the first
alley, climbing the ladder to the second area. There are utahraptors in the
alley so be careful. If one catches you the enemy can shoot you dead. Head
into the storeroom below the turret and stock up on ammo. Cowboy will need you
to grab a turret, though I don't know why, you'll just become a sitting duck.
In fact, playing through on Inhuman I actually followed his instructions which
led to four choppers worth of soldiers compared to the two you can just face
if you don't bother climbing the stairs to the turret. Anyway, head right
along the platform and watch the soldiers come out of the storeroom below the
other turret. Hide behind the large pipes for cover and shoot them when you
get the chance. After disposing of them watch the second turret and shoot the
soldier running towards it. If you go back for ammo be aware the turret may be
manned again. Alternatively, you can race back and climb the ladder by the
other turret. This will get you on the catwalk with a safe position to take
out the problematic turret. Of course, as soon as you descend to ground level
you'll have to fight the four helicopters deploying troops. So, in short, if
you take out the right turret from behind the pipes (more dangerous) you don't
have to fight the other soldiers. But, if you climb to a safe position to take
out the turret, you do have to fight the other soldiers.
When you climb the second ladder out of the next alley, a soldier will be
immediately above you. Be prepared for some quick fire to make it out alive.
Once he's dead, stock up in the store room. Then head back outside and climb
the ladder. Use the crates to your left for cover during this next fight. A
heap of soldiers will start racing at you, most of them holding SMGs. Shoot
them in bursts with the pulse rifle and plant some proximity mines using the
Blackfly. When they're cleared, Cowboy will come towards you. We're nearly at
the checkpoint. Resist from going back into the storeroom as some heavy
weapons experts will rush down to kill you. They certainly caught me by
surprise on Inhuman.
The two HW experts normally stand at the opposite side of the large platform
you're now on. Use the wide pipe as cover and take them out. Remember, one is
to the right and one is to the left. When they're dead head forwards and pick
up a mini-gun. Deploy it as a turret so that it will watch the opening that
leads around the corner, which you currently can't see around. Then go back to
the right where you'll find some low crates. If you jump up you will see the
soldiers standing behind them, and a turret. Throw a frag or disruption
grenade to take some of them out and allow the mini-gun you deployed to pick
off any that try to flank you. Now head through the doors and collect ammo,
before climbing the ladder. (Checkpoint)
Up the next ladder you'll get to the top platform by the vent. Slade and
Shepard will be fighting the soldiers up here, and you need to help them. One
hides at the far end nearest the railing. You can hit him from behind the
cover of the stone block in the middle. Another is up the next stairs by the
vent. A HW expert will join the fight shortly after, bringing along some more
backup. Flush them out with disruption grenades.
-------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Destroy the MG Chopper.
-------------------------------------------------
Another helicopter will fly in. You'll need the RPG to take it down, which is
found in the storeroom at the opposite end of the platform to where you
entered. Collect it and shoot from behind cover. The helicopter won't always
be in the same position - it may move to the left and shoot at you. Use the
lock-on feature to shoot and run.
------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Enter the vent.
------------------------------------
Slade will blow a hole in the vent. Walk through it. (Checkpoint)
===============
7.14 Into the Breach
===============
---------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Infiltrate the base.
----------------------------------------
Run down the grimy lower levels of the base. Slade will blow up the lock on a
door, which you'll need to pry open. Jump down into the sewers and run to the
right where you'll find a ladder. (Checkpoint)
At the top of the ladders you'll find a single soldier patrolling an
experimental room. Sneak up and knife him. There's some ammo ahead of where
you entered, past the ramp, including grenades. Head up the ramp and along the
catwalk. Magically, Slade and Shepard will have made it to the door before
you. The doors will open onto another room. There are two soldiers in here. As
Timothy Olyphant wisely says, sneak up on them without raising the alarm. If
you get caught you'll have to deal with more enemies that come out of the door
from above. I tend to take out the soldier typing on the computer screens
first.
After you have cleared the room go up through the next door. There's a
flamethrower soldier and a couple others in here to deal with. Put them on the
ground with a disruption grenade to kill them quickly. Then why not just take
his flamethrower! As you descend the steps you'll enter a minor siege mode.
There are two HW expert ahead, providing cover for the other soldiers to
charge you. Once again, disruption or frag grenades work wonders. If you have
enough ammo, also shoot a tek arrow. Also watch for the soldier on the auto
turret ahead. If you stand back by the steps and pull back hard on the bow you
should be able to take him out.
As you advance, some more soldiers will run at you. These are much easier to
deal with. One of them wields a flamethrower so don't let him get too close.
Then backtrack to the right where Shepard is working on opening the door. Head
through, listen to the commentary, then make your way out the door to the
right. (Checkpoint)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Plant bombs to disable the generator system.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone find this section hard? That's fair enough. There's a beautiful way of
getting through it in one shot, including Inhuman. Make sure you pick up the
mini-gun sitting on the cabinet to the right of the room. Also stock up on
whatever else you need here. Now head down the ramp and climb the ladder.
Cowboy will remind you to deploy the mini-gun as a turret. It's good advice. I
always go from Sector 3 to 2 to 1. So, as soon as you make it onto the
platform above run to your left and plant the mini-gun so that it has a clear
view of the soldier in the protected walkway ahead. Now quickly run through,
killing him if he isn't dead already and plant the first bomb. Switch out to
the knife and run and jump crazily to avoid the venom from the flying insects.
Pass your first mini-gun and collect the one on the floor. Now continue
running like a maniac over to the second sector. Plant the bomb. As you look
out there will now be a denser collection of the annoying insects, but just
keep running and jumping like a maniac. If you're disoriented, follow the
objective arrow. After planting the third explosive break for the protected
part of the platform. Switch out to the mini-gun. If you have done this
correctly, the ladder should be to your left. Deploy the turret ahead of you
(make sure it's not a "no-deploy zone") and then race for the ladder. As you
climb down the insects will still spit at you, and if you continue descending
slowly you'll be dead. So, get about halfway and before you can be damaged
enough press X to jump off the ladder, spin around and run down the ramp and
back up the stairs to safety. (Cinematic and checkpoint)
------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Get out of the base.
------------------------------------------
If it weren't for Slade and Ron Perlman, all my favourite characters would now
be dead. You'll start off without your weapons. Follow Slade through the
doorway to pick up your knife and bow. The facility is starting to crumble now
and everything is shaking like crazy. Make your way into the lava room. As you
run along a soldier will be blown to his death, leaving his pulse rifle
behind. Pick it up. Kill the two soldiers working on opening the door. Another
should come out after them. This section can throw off your aim, so be aware
of that. There are two more in the next room. A third will be crushed by
debris. Pry open the door to the left. (Checkpoint)
On top of the next ramp you'll see a scorpion (awesome!) and some soldiers. To
save time, shoot a disruption grenade up there - it will explode the barrels
and clear out most of the room. The door to the left is blocked. If you want a
mini-gun there's one at the base of the ramp. Otherwise, pry open the next
door. A soldier is patrolling (why isn't he running?) on the catwalk above the
lava. Kill him. Two others are manning the next door out. Use cover to take
these guys out as they can catch you off-guard. One of them is a HW expert.
Also, some more flying insects will provide minor annoyance from above. Crouch
under the stairs and pry open the door.
Kill the scorpion that is mauling the soldier and run up the ramp. Two more of
the creatures will attack you. Head around the next corner. (Checkpoint)
Pry open the door to the left and you'll be back around lava. Follow the
catwalk along, taking out the soldiers from behind cover and minding the bugs.
The main concern is, once again, the soldier with the mini-gun. Go through
the next door and stock up on ammo. There's a single scorpion before the next
room. Pry open that door. (Checkpoint)
This part alone makes the game beyond awesome. If you have the mini-gun deploy
it as a turret. Otherwise, enjoy the insane intensity of this amazing scene.
There's nothing I can advise on. If you're playing Inhuman just remember the
knife kills are harder so you'd be better off shooting your way through. The
big dilophosaurus at the end just caps it off. Shotguns are located near the
corners of the wall. Once you're done head through the doorway and down the
corridor. (Checkpoint)
=================
7.15 An Eye for an Eye
=================
Walk over to the plane. (Cinematic)
Oh, Kane is goin' down!
-----------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Prevent Kane from escaping.
-----------------------------------------------------
It's the last fire fight, which I guess is emotional.
There's an ammo and weapon storage area to the right of where you begin.
Basically anything you need is in there. Just ahead, a flamethrower and HW
soldier will be waiting to take you out. Explosives really help in this
situation. Once they're down, pulse rifle soldiers will advance. Use the mini-
gun as a turret once you make it up the stairs. This will help deal with
anyone that tries to charge on you, but also frees you up to take out the two
soldiers manning the turrets to the left and right ahead. Use arrows for them,
making sure they can't see you. If you stand back at the top of the stairs you
should have some safe shots. The second wave comes through the large door
ahead. The pillar in the centre of the action is perfect to deal with both
sides of the shoot-out. After you've killed the last soldiers of the game,
head through the doorway. (Cinematic)
Unlike the helicopters, Kane's ship will take three rockets to bring down.
There's not as much cover this time, either. Also, you'll have to deal with
bullets as well as rockets, which is never a good mix.
On normal, it's possible to bring the ship down with 3 successive shots, as
long as you run out when he's still firing. With Hard, it's best to fire a
rocket and then run back to cover, avoiding the rockets he fires back at you.
On Inhuman, I tend to fire then run all the way back to the end of cover to
avoid the rockets before returning. It's quite easy to complete if you run to
the turret while Kane is still firing. (Checkpoint and cinematic)
----------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Kill Roland Kane.
----------------------------------------
This is pretty self-explanatory. He taught you how to use the knife, now you
beat him at his own game.
And I don't think I've said this yet but Turok's voice is perfect, as is
Kane's (voiced by someone from Deadwood). (Cinematic)
------------------------------------
OBJECTIVE: Kill the T-Rex.
------------------------------------
Mama Scarface returns, and now it's time to take her out for good. If you're
having trouble with this then I'm assuming it's because you're attempting to
kill her with the devious rockets. Please ignore them. It takes 24 rockets on
Normal to bring her down, don't ask about the other difficulties!
You're in a large compound, so there's no need to feel claustrophobic.
Normal and Hard: When you gain mobility of Turok look left to a crate across
the lava flow. On the left side of this crate is a shotgun. Grab it. Now,
remember the flares lure the dinosaurs, and it's no different here. Shoot one
back where you started to distract her while you make a run for the opposite
side of the compound. If you keep shooting flares she won't be a threat.
There's a crate exactly like the one you found the shotgun beside on this
half, and here you'll find the pulse rifle. Pick it up. Now turn around and
head to the nearest stack of crates. This will be where you position yourself
throughout the battle. Now you have to circle the crates firing into her head.
It usually takes over two clips to bring her to the ground. When she topples
over, rush over to the head and execute the brilliant knife kill.
Inhuman: Wow. This is the definition of hard and extremely stressful. I'm
actually repeatedly freaked out by this T-Rex, particularly on Inhuman.
Anyway, she moves with deft speed this time around. Follow the same process as
you did on the other difficulties, except this time you'll need to really
sprint otherwise she'll catch you. Flare placement is a crucial factor. Grab
the pulse rifle and start circling the crates. Instead of aiming at the head,
go for the hip. You'll get some clearer shots when she turns her back on you.
Blast away with the pulse rifle and when that runs out of ammo switch it for
the Blackfly. Now you can dual wield the Blackfly with the Shotgun. Keep
blasting her hips and avoiding the jaws. When the Blackfly runs out of ammo
swap it out for the SMG on the opposite side of the crates. Continue the
process. As long as you blast away like crazy she'll go down. Rush in for the
knife kill and breathe an amazing sigh of relief.
Congratulations, you just beat Turok's Story Mode!
Now it's time to get those achievement ribbons and join in some multiplayer
fun. If you need further help or feel I haven't written a section sufficiently
then feel free to send me an e-mail.
